VIVIAN CHEN - PIANO

B.SCI, MONASH UNIVERSITY

Vivian is the master of goose bumps. The way she plays the piano can only be described as a moment of pure enlightenment.

Vivian started her musical journey at the ripe age of 5, learning how to play the classics made famous by composers such as Beethoven, Bach and Chopin. Growing up in a competitive environment, Vivian performed and competed in various eisteddfords and concert halls across Australia. This propelled her to achieve her AMusA at the age of 10, followed by LMusA at 12 years of age. Additionally, Vivian studied on a music scholarship - where she developed skills as a soloist and team player in chamber ensembles and bands.

Since founding Vivian Chen Piano in 2016, Vivian discovered her love of mentoring children, which prompted her to complete a Masters of Teaching. This has helped her adapt her teaching styles; to facilitate for both competitive and leisurely piano students through her specially tailored lessons and music pedagogy. With a special interest in technical and classical music, Vivian inspires her students, encouraging them to go beyond their comfort zone to find that they too can become a modern-day, classical pianist. With 10 years of teaching experience, Vivian only teaches from her music studio located in Bulleen.

In her spare time, Vivian works at a high-school teaching Biology, General Science and Mathematics; keeps up to date with where the best Melbourne cafes and bakeries are and enjoys the simple pleasures of a Sunday morning coffee with her family.

Since joining our team, Jenny has brought a fresh perspective and teaching approach to our musical team. An inspiration for both students and the teaching team, Jenny is one of our most beloved teachers.

Jenny began learning the piano at the age of 4, where she stunned all her teachers and family at how quick she was able to learn and read music. Following a competitive pathway, Jenny had the opportunity to perform and compete nationally, representing Victoria on 3MBS radio station. Coincidentally like Vivian, she completed her AMusA at the age of 10 and LMusA at 12 years old. Studying on a 100% music scholarship at Melbourne Girls' Grammar, and later becoming school music captain, Jenny has a wealth of musical knowledge - which she's eager to pass onto her students!

With carefully structured one-on-one piano lessons, Jenny prides herself in getting down on her students level and understanding their goals and aspirations in music. She has helped many piano students pass exams with distinction and continues to want to help others achieve their musical endeavours. Jenny is happy to travel out to students' houses.

When not piano teaching, Jenny works as a lawyer (her childhood dream job!) at a reknown Melbourne Law Firm is working towards her childhood dream of becoming a lawyer and enjoys spending her free time checking out the latest musicals Melbourne has to offer.
